I am still here

Yap, I am still here working with everything..Everyday a little bit of everything to get what I want…but still thousands of things have to be done and most of them involve AS3. Although the design part is evolving the programming part gets me once more nightmares.. Started to combining everything in flash and creating my scenes. The combination of two .as files though is not feasible for me..killed hours and hours on that so…I think I ll keep working with the idea of the document class and make it work like that.. A great tutorial that I found for help(for simple flash websites though) : http://www.onebyonedesign.com/tutorials/as3site/tutorial/index.html  If you always wanna know what you do.. the tutorial offers a deep understanding of each step in AS3.

First illustrator pieces…

Trying to find the style of the website graphics.. I have some first elements for the environment design. I kind of like the cartoonish abstract style. I need to experiment a bit more but probably I ll keep the idea of the black outline. Dark colored and infertile flowers and trees will decorate the first stage while the colorful happy flowers will decorate the final stage. Here is a first sample:

Graphic Design

I am currently working with the design… working on illustrator..

The website will be separated in four level-stages for the user to navigate in. The first page/level will be a infertile sad and dark sight and while the user will make the desirable choices he will transfer to another more bright and healthy place. So basically I started making some draft (or not) palettes to manage the colors of each level and apply them to my designs that are trees and flowers for the time being..

so the sad colors are corresponding to the environment where no one cares. Its a dystopia. A view of how things are going to be unless we become a little more activistic. Moving on, when people(the user) will start taking care of simple things indoors the affect and the boost that gives immediately to the environment is exciting and quite worthy. Finally, the view is just amazingly colorful. An utopia of the environment as it can be if we all start worrying and

What about the content?

I have been checking on environmental websites to find, combine and use information about simple things that we can all do to help the planet in a simple way. I have categorized them in a way that ultimately will help me organize the site structure in the same way. All the information is referenced in the “Links” page.

A draft list follows:

>>Save energy

  1. Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) when your older incandescent bulbs burn out.
(They last eight times as long and use a fraction of the energy.)
  2. Unplug appliances when you’re not using them. Or, use a “smart” power strip that senses when appliances are off and cuts “phantom” or “vampire” energy use.
  3. Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water.
  4. Choose energy-efficient appliances when you replace old ones
  5. Turn off TVs and stereos instead of switching them to standby.
  6. Paint your walls a pale colour, so you need less artificial light.
  7. Improve the ambience and dine by candlelight, saving electricity.
  8. Insulate your home. Cavity wall insulation can cut heat loss through the wall by up to 60%.
  9. Grow plants to give to friends instead of cut flowers.
  10. Ban blinds. Heavy curtains keep in more heat in.
  11. Solar Garden Lights

>>Save water

  1. Install a low-flow showerhead. (They don’t cost much, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment.)
  2. Plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. Find out which occur naturally in your area.
  3. Make sure you have a faucet aerator on each faucet. These inexpensive appliances conserve heat and water, while keeping water pressure high. Read the rest of this entry »
